junip - rope and summit ep

if you want to download the whole release, click on the cover

a few words by osenboz:

actually i didn't wanted to post a second release
today... but this deserves an immediate mention!

one of my most favourite musicians "josé gonzález"
put his solo-project aside for a while and is now
busy working with "elias araya" and "tobias winterkorn"
on the debut-release for their band "junip".

the cd will be released on 13. september, and because
of the long waiting-time, they decided to offer the
first 4-tracks ep for free!!

on this ep you'll find the typical guitar-playing
and singing of josé gonzález combined with some
dark synths, and drums - a very nice combination!

if you're not familiar to josé gonzález's solo-project,
don't forget to have a look at his homepage!
he's an amazing artist!

below you can listen to the song "turn to the assassin"
by junip which can be found on the "black refuge ep"

have a nice listen!
...and if you like the release, don't forget to leave
a comment or at least give some stars!!

kemuzik one

if you want to download the whole release, click on the cover

a few words by osenboz:

a few days ago "priam" from "kemez's music shelf" contacted
me and told me about his finally released first compilation.
and after visiting his beautiful site, i immediately checked
the release-page to see what he has compiled.

and what i found was way more than expected!
after just the first few seconds of "i am oak",
i was totally captivated.
also the rest of the compilation is filled with alot
of very nice songs, by artists who give their music away
for free, or release their cd's commercially.
(all of them has been asked for permission to give the
specific songs away for free!)

also some special-goodies appear on the compilation:
the song "down here" by "stateless" can currently be found
nowhere else! and allison crowe's "effortless" is
an unmixed original version.

all in all i can say that when you listen to this
compilation, you hear that the "compiler" had not just
taken the first few songs he liked. he spent alot of time
searching for the right ones (actually about half a year!)
to capture a wide range of emotions.

...and of course, don't forget to visit his sites:

general site about free-music: kemez´s music shelf
compilations: kemuzik

ker - walking up hills

if you want to download the whole release, click on the cover

a few words by osenboz:

...i hope all of you are patient enough to keep
following this blog... there'll be better days (hopefully)
soon but i try to keep posting at least one release
per week until i find some more time.

ok, enough of the unfruitful tattle... today it's time for
a few new releases!

...and the kick off comes from ker wilson!

normally she's busy working on her main-project with
dan gelder called "the papertiger sound"
(they released a new album a bit earlier in 2010,
you can have a look at it >>>here)

...but about once every year she offers some
free-soundscapes as the solo-project "ker"

on her already eighth release "walking up hills"
you'll find 8 melancholic acoustic downtempo songs which
let you sink in your sofa as it is a basin filled with water.
so don't try to listen to those songs if you
are not prepared for a melancholic-music-bath!

...ker recently also released a nice ep called
"your familiar" which you can get >>>here

my bubba & mi - how it's done in italy

if you want to download the whole release, click on the cover

a few words by osenboz:

once every few months there's a release which
absolutely enthuses me...
and this time, the female-trio "my bubba & me" totally made it!

on their debut release they present 10 amazingly
gorgeous songs, which already sweetened
alot of my mornings, afternoons, evenings, bus-rides,
hikes, cycling-tours, and nearly every situation where
you can possibly listen to music.

even though the cd was released nearly 1 month ago,
i think you can probably still get one of the
hand-made cd's and vinyls on "beep!beep! back up the truck"
or on the "we were never being boring collection"
if not, the "pay what you want" mp3-download from
bandcamp needs to be suffice. (click on the cover)

...this time i'll not add some "personal favourite songs",
because it would be too hard to choose which song to exclude...

...and if you got the luck to be in italy this week,
don't forget to have a look at their >>>tour-dates!!

below i added some of their very beautiful pictures...
(you can watch more of them on their blog: >>>here

entertainment for the braindead - roadkill

if you want to download the whole release, click on the cover

a few words by osenboz:

finally it's here!

one of my highest awaited free-releases for this year
has reached the "stores" of aaahh-records.

while busy studying at the "academy of media arts" in cologne,
julia kotowski a.k.a. "entertainment for the braindead" fell
in love with a banjo, and decided to record some tracks
showing her experiences with this little instrument.

on her (already 5th!) release, she hasn't lost a single
piece of her uniqueness. her songs are still as fragile as
a snowflake but also as exhilarant as the first sunrays of spring.

as pre-listen song i've choosen the song "roadkill",
because this track immediately catched my ear.
but i can just advise you to not just listen to this song
on his own, but to listen to the whole release closely.
because that's the way how this cd unfolds it's entire beauty.

scavengers - sun dried ep

if you want to download the whole release, click on the cover

a few words by osenboz:

when i started listening to the first track
of the "Sun Dried EP" by the "scavengers"
i wasn't sure what to expect, and when the
didgeridoo alike sound on the beginning started,
i guessed of some abstract ambient or probably
any other kind of experimental music.

but what i heared after the first few seconds was
(as john cleese would say it)
something completely different...

indeed this ep doesn't walk the streight way of
typical indie-folk, because it seems like the man behind
"scavengers" is trying to build its own road to walk on.
bumpy, twisting, raw and beautiful.

i tried to search for details about this artist,
but i wasn't successful.
if i get some more information, it'll appar in here
immediately.

meanwhile, i can just highly recommend you to download
this amazing ep, because one pre-listening song definitely
can't deliver the soundscapes and feelings of this release.

daniel j nixon - turn this stone

if you want to download the whole release, click on the cover

a few words by osenboz:

...my list of "waiting" releases for the blog is long...
and so i'll continue with a really amazing one:

the debut ep of "daniel j nixon".
as the high voltage accurately wrote:
"Just the right amount of restrained emotion..."

his singing in combination with a discreet acoustic guitar
generates a smooth, calm atmosphere, perfect for those
cold and rainy winter-days.
although the last song is called "first snow of the winter",
for me this release sounds more like a foretaste of spring...

this time you're lucky if you live near manchester,
here are his currently announced live dates:

23.02.2010 // Manchester University Students Union // Manchester
02.03.2010 // Night & Day // Manchester

you can watch the video of the song "that girl" below
(song's not included on the ep... but it's really great!)

thomas kivi - introduction

if you want to download the whole release, click on the cover

a few words by osenboz:

the last days i wasn't sure what to listen to...
i found alot of releases, all of them interesting and nice,
but anyhow i wasn't totally satisfied.

so i continued searching without knowing what to search for,
and now finally, it seems that i found it.

thomas kivi, the minneapolis-based singer-songwriter
caught my ear after the first few seconds of his release.

i located him on the paperdarts-magazine while looking
for some details about bethany deline...
and when i noticed that he offers his latest work "introduction"
for free via last.fm, i couldn't wait to add it to the blog.

...and the best way to describe his music is probably to
add his explanation-text from his myspace-page:

What has influenced you?
Either the Grand Canyon says: "God," or the Grand Canyon says "time."
And if you ask me, I say either: "Michel de Montaigne, Bob Dylan,
Ludwig Wittgenstein, Augustine of Hippo, Disiderius Erasmus,
Rene Descartes, Blaise Pascal, Townes van Zandt , Tom Waits,
Frank Zappa, Hank Williams, Charles Darwin, etc" or I say: "time."

bethany deline - garden level sessions

if you want to download the whole release, click on the cover

a few words by osenboz:

i listened to alot of music the last days,
but somehow nothing managed to impress me really.
probably i simply haven't had the time to listen
to the records in the way they deserve,
so probably some of them will appear later on...

but then, in the middle of the music-maze, i found
"bethany deline" and her cute ep "garden level sessions"

this is one of those releases where you somehow
don't manage to have a bad mood while listening to it.
it broadcasts such a high amount of positivity and
happiness through the ukulele and her voice, that
i simply couldn't resist.

when the war came - yeah!

if you want to download the whole release, click on the cover

a few words by osenboz:

yeah! i love the irony of the combination between
the artists name and the album-title...

...and of course i really enjoyed this release!
it's the debut release of the california-based
interpreter "when the war came" a.k.a. "jacob ninomiya".
he wrote and recorded all tracks himself, and the
output of this 1-man-project are 9 constantly great,
melancholic indie-folk tracks.
(as downloadlink i used his bandcamp-page, because there you can downlaod the whole
thing as .rar-archvie, and on cllct you can only download the release track by track)

also, this release got some positive side-effects for me:

first, it revealed me, that the great free-music portal
cllct has opened it's doors once again,

and it also brought me to another really amazing artist,
but for that you need to wait for the next entry...
